Skills/Qualifications:
- Active and unrestricted California Board of Registered Nursing license.
- Current Basic Life Support Certification.
- Experience with electronic medical records and standard PC Software applications required.
- Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills to enhance interactions with staff, patients, patient’s families, physicians, and ancillary departments.
- Professional knowledge of outpatient nursing policies and procedures, theory, and administration in order to oversee back office operations.
- Analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills necessary to exercise effective oversight of the Urgent Care team, develop solutions to difficult administrative and patient care problems and handle emergencies.
- Advanced organization, time and stress management skills to handle a multitude of administrative, patient care and performance improvement related tasks efficiently, on time with excellent results.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
Education/Experience:
- Three years of full time work experience as a registered nurse required, five or more years preferred. Outpatient clinic experience preferred.
- One year of supervisory experience of RN, LVN or Unlicensed Assistive Personnel required, Three or more years preferred.
- Graduate of an NLN accredited registered nursing program with a diploma of completion.
Duties:
- Oversee the Urgent Care staff, coordinate the support provided by the staff to achieve high quality of care and timely patient flow. Urgent Care wait time target is 15 minutes and total visit time target is 50 minutes.
- Manage the UC patient flow, by triaging patients to determine the order in which they will be seen based on their acuity level.
- Execute medical orders, process prescription refills based on pre-established guidelines signed by providers.
- Handle triage phone calls as needed..
- Manage medication and supply inventory in the Urgent Care.
- Provide nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Maintain effective and continuous communications with physicians, patients and staff.
- Ability to delegate duties and oversee Licensed Vocational Nurses and Unlicensed Assistive Personnel.
- Provide patient education, counseling and advocacy.
- Assist with patient hygiene, mobility, ambulation, and nutrition functions.
- Perform and interpret diagnostic tests, quality control and quality assurance activities.
- Prepare and administer medications, solutions, and or treatments safely. Administer injections as needed.
- Document timely and legibly using SOAP or other acceptable format, including the delivery of medications, vaccinations, diagnostic tests and results, and treatments.
- Implement age specific, cultural, infection control, safety, pain management, and BLS competencies, and/ or other unit specific competencies.
- Participates in process improvement activities, ambulatory care and hospital committees, and/ or policy and procedure development.
- Orients and trains staff and provides in-services.
- Promotes efficiency and safety in clinic flow and clinic operations.
- Proactively seeks and update professional knowledge. Completes continuing education requirements.
- Comply and keep current with accreditation standards and federal, state and local regulatory requirements.
- Cover for clinic nurses as needed and other duties as assigned.
