The Ventura County Area Agency on Aging is pleased to introduce the VCAAA Senior Nutrition Program Recipe Book. The recipes included in this book incorporate healthy and affordable meal options, many of which have been created by the fantastic staff at VCAAA meal sites throughout the County. Each recipe has the option to prepare either large or small portions, depending on family size.

VCAAA and HELP of Ojai to offer free diabetes education class
Ventura, Calif. - Do you or someone you love have diabetes? Join the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging and HELP of Ojai for DEEP, a Diabetes Empowerment Education Program, designed to educate and empower individuals living with diabetes. The six-week class is free and open to the public. Classes will be held at HELP of Ojai beginning April 24th 2 PM- 4 PM.
The Diabetes Empowerment Education Program, also known as DEEP, is an education curriculum designed to help people with pre-diabetes, diabetes, relatives and caregivers gain a better understanding of diabetes self-care. Classes last a total of six weeks, providing participates with eight unique learning modules.
Goals of the DEEP curriculum include improving and maintaining the quality of life of persons with pre-diabetes and existing diabetes; preventing complications and incapacities; improving eating habits and maintaining adequate nutrition; increasing physical activity; developing self-care skills; and improving the relationship between patients and health care providers.

The Ventura County Area Agency on Aging, an agency of the County of Ventura, is the principle agency in Ventura County charged with the responsibility to promote the development implantation of a comprehensive coordinated system of care that enables older individuals and their caregivers to live in a community-based setting and to advocate for the needs of those 60 years of age and older in the county, providing leadership and promoting citizen involvement in the planning process as well as in the delivery services.
HELP of Ojai is a vital resource for residents of the Ojai Valley, serving as the only full time, basic needs provider in the area, equipped to assist clients when they are at their most vulnerable and unable to travel elsewhere for help. HELP of Ojai operates nine separate programs, collaborating to provide a "one-stop" destination for clients seeking intensive support unhindered by administrative burdens.
