Job Purpose: Work side by side with physicians and physician assistants to provide high quality, compassionate and timely health care to the patients of West Ventura Medical Clinic. Under supervision, render support services directly related to patient care.

Education/Experience:
- Medical Assistant Certificate from an accredited medical assistant training program (such as is offered by a vocational training program, adult education or community college).
- High school diploma required; some college preferred.
- Experience with electronic medical records and standard PC Software applications required.
- Minimum of 1 year (12 months) of full time work experience as a Medical Assistant in a primary care clinic required. Additional specialized experience in OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Urgent Care or Internal Medicine a plus.
- Experience with California State programs such as Family PACT and the Cancer Detection Program preferred.
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Review patient charts prior to examination: ensure all related reports, ER/Hospitalization/Specialist notes, labs and information is available in patients’ electronic medical records prior to their appointment.
- Prepare patients for examination/treatment: Introduce him/herself, greet patients by name, escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients, confirm reason for visit, measure vital signs, including weight, height, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, head circumference and body length, Snellen and Ishihara’s vision testing and documents all information accurately in patient’s chart before the provider enters exam room.
- Assist provider in the exam room. Anticipate and address patient/provider’s needs in a timely manner to improve patient flow.
- Administer immunizations and take electrocardiograms per provider’s instructions.
- Give instructions to patients as instructed by physician or physician assistant.
- Perform exit procedures.
- Make appropriate entries in patient electronic medical records timely and accurately. Consult/use Medi-tech, PLUS Scheduling, CAIR immunization registry, CURES and other computer based systems as instructed.
- Perform CLIA waived testing after obtaining and maintaining annual competency.
- Perform dipstick urinalysis, midstream clean catch, sterile urine dip and spin. Collect and prep throat, wound and GC cultures and Pap smears; assists with stool blood testing.
- Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, and prepare sterilization as required. Assist with setting up and stocking, inventory and supply ordering.
- Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to physicians and physician assistants. Researches, provides feedback and answers, escalates to provider or administration when necessary.
- Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change, etc.)
- Comply and keep current with accreditation standards and federal, state and local regulatory requirements.
